Outreach spreads the love and compassion of Spirit through service. It is connecting to others, while honoring the humanity in each of us.
The mission of the Unity South Outreach Ministry is to engage the Unity South spiritual community of all ages in service opportunities which honor humanity, celebrate diversity, and expand horizons. |
If you have other ideas or suggestions for outreach, please let us know!
Holiday Giving 2011
Every year people are moved to share with others during the holiday season. At Unity South, we have many options - the need is great, and how blessed are we that we can give in so many ways!
Giving opportunities that we are familiar with and can confidently recommend include:
Unity South Christmas Sharing - a tradition in our own community, we invite congregants to give a little extra and we then confidentially and respectfully share the funds with others in our faith family who are in need of a little extra holiday help. Donations and requests for receiving help can be made privately by talking to Rev. Festus or Board President Kelli von Heydekampf.
The Aliveness Project Holiday Basket Program- helping those in our area who are living with AIDS. The biggest need is adoption of baskets, but other volunteer opportunities include providing holiday cookies, sewing holiday stockings, wrapping presents, and making deliveries. Visit their website to learn more! Rev. Lyle Schlundt (active at Unity Christ in Golden Valley), and Karen in the Unity South office have both volunteered with this organization - and give it their stamp of enthusiastic approval!
SHOEBOX GIFTS
The Sunday School children, and all other Unity South-ers, are invited to fill a show box (or similar-sized box) with small items suitable for a teen. Boxes will be donated to Oasis for Youth, a local center serving homeless and precariously-housed youth. Boxes due to Unity South on or before December 18. Suggested items: Gloves/mittens, pens, socks, $5 gift cards (Target, MTC Bus, Holiday, etc), personal items (toothbrush/paste, comb/brush, shampoo, etc.), small fun items. Please indicate if your box should go to a girl, boy, or is suitable for either. Click here for a flyer to share.
PCYC Children's Gift Store: Our youth volunteer each year at this "store" where children can select gifts for their parents and siblings. Other needs are great; please visit their website for details on ways to help.
residents of Bloomington, Richfield and Edina. Each month at Unity South we collect one item to help stock the Food Shelves at VEAP.
VEAP collects holiday gift items and holiday food items to distribute to those in need in Bloomington, Richfield and Edina. Details are found on their website.
Feed My Starving Children: Periodically throughout the year, a group of Unity South-ers volunteer at the Eagan location of Feed My Starving Children, making nutritious meal packets to send to Haiti. Check back for our next volunteer date.
Loaves and Fishes: Every "Fifth Friday" during the year it's our turn to feed our neighbors. Located in Bloomington, MN, this free meal program offers hot meals to any and all who attend. Our group of volunteers swoops into the kitchen, makes a delicious menu, serves hundreds, and cleans up quickly. Sign up in the Atrium.
2011 Dates: April 29, July 29, September 30, December 30.

Salvation Army Collection Box
We now have a collection box for donations to the Salvation Army on our property, in the north-east corner of the parking lot. Gently-used, clean clothing and small (unbreakable) household items and children's items are welcomed. The box is emptied regularly. If you have larger items, there is a phone number on the box to call to arrange for pick-up.
